Fly during the day, not at night
Why This is Green
Here's something we bet you didn't know: Daytime flights have less than half the environmental impact of red-eyes.
According to an article in the Environmental Leader, it's because the contrails formed by jet emissions capture heat. During the day, contrails also reflect sunlight, so the impact is somewhat offset. At night, however, there’s no sunlight to reflect. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates contrails have at least as much negative impact on the climate as carbon-dioxide airplane emissions.

How To
Online travel sites let you choose by schedule and show arrival and departure times. Avoid flights that spend a majority of flying time in the dark. And who likes red-eyes anyway?
