Get something from Freecycle, instead of buying it
Why This is Green
The Freecycle network is made up of almost 5,000 groups with over 8 million members around the world. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are getting (and giving) stuff for free in their own local areas. Freecycle is like an enabling, encouraging cheerleader of reuse!
Reusing anything and everything is a lovely way to stop waste at the source; every time you get something on Freecycle, you’re avoiding (or at least delaying) that specific item’s entry into the waste collection and disposal system. Our groaning landfills will thank you. Reusing has additional environmental benefits including reducing demand for the resources (natural and otherwise) that go into the manufacture and transport of anything new.

How To
The next time you’re in the market for something new, check Freecycle before heading out to a store. You will need to register and join your local community group before you can search listings.
Once you have joined, search for anything your heart desires. Truly just about everything might be posted. In our community we've seen people posting bubble wrap, unwanted food items, clothing, furniture, sports equipment, and more. In fact, Practically Green furnished our office almost entirely from Freecycle. True story!
If you find an item, don’t forget to follow proper etiquette as well as post a thank you.
