Why This is Green
The Freecycle network is made up of almost 5,000 groups with over 8 million members around the world—organized into towns and neighborhoods. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own local areas. Freecycle is like an enabling, encouraging cheerleader of reuse!
Reusing anything and everything is a lovely way to stop waste at the source; every time you give something away on Freecycle, you’re avoiding (or at least delaying) that specific item’s entry into the waste collection and disposal system. Our groaning landfills will thank you. Reusing has additional environmental benefits including reducing demand for the resources (natural and otherwise) that go into the manufacture and transport of anything new.
Bonus: you’ll be clearing up space in your own home or garage.

The next time your considering tossing an item, put it on Freecycle instead. To get started, register and join your local group. Next, post what you want to give away. It’s easy.
No need to be shy; post shamelessly! Your trash is truly someone else’s treasure. In our community we've seen people posting bubble wrap, unwanted food items, clothing, furniture, sports equipment, and more. In fact, Practically Green furnished our office almost entirely from Freecycle. True story!
Don’t be surprised how quickly your items get snapped up. Once your item(s) have been claimed, be courteous and alert the community that the item(s) are no longer available.
