Install a shower timer
Why This is Green
Most of us are guilty of spending too much time in the shower. A great way to curb your shower time--and save water, energy, and money--is to install a timer. It not only alerts you when your allotted time is up but also makes you aware of your overall water usage. You may be surprised to learn how long your showers actually are and how many gallons of water you’re using.
Standard showerheads use two and a half gallons of water per minute; low-flow showerheads use less than two gallons. So, an average eight minute shower uses 16 to 20 gallons of water. For every moment you shave off your shower time, you’re saving water. Set your timer to five minutes and you can save six to seven and a half gallons of water per shower, which can really add up.
Water is a valuable resource and using less allows more to stay in the ground or in a reservoir. This helps to maintain a natural water balance, supports wildlife, and preserves H2O for future use.

How To
Shop around for a device that meets your needs. Basic timers stick to the wall of your shower. Fancier digital versions display time, water usage, and sound an alarm when your time is up.
If you need something a little stricter to reign you in, buy a timer that shuts the water off when you’re done. Follow the instructions for proper installation.
Note: you set the shower time, so challenge yourself and see how low you can go!
