Purchase carbon offsets for a flight
Why This is Green
Air travel is now the fastest growing contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Buying a carbon offset essentially helps fund the equivalent development of clean energy or reforestation. While it won’t actually reduce the environmental impact of your flight, it’s a way of mitigating it with renewable energy, like wind or solar, and/or new trees.
Not all carbon offsets are created equal. Some are local, some are abroad, and some are energy projects. Do a little homework to be clear about what your offset funds are being used for. This can be frustrating as there are many different ratings and certification standards for offsets. Having one seal to look for—like USDA organic for food—would make the process a lot easier for consumers.

How To
Purchase carbon offsets from a company you’ve looked into and like. If you’re not up to or interested in researching carbon offset companies, some online travel sites and airlines offer customers choices during the ticket purchasing process.
