Reuse wrapping paper, paper bags, or newspaper for book covers

Why This is Green

Many schools require kids to cover their books as protection. Rather than using new paper for the task, why not reuse that paper bag, newspaper, or last bit of wrapping paper. You’ll get extra use out of them before recycling, and you’ll save a little money, too.

Reusing paper will save trees and water, plus reduce air and water pollution. It also reduces the amount of paper that gets thrown out rather than recycled because people aren’t always sure what can be recycled—like paper bags. This clogs our landfills. Paper can’t actually biodegrade without access to air, water, light, microbes, and enzymes, which aren't available in an overstuffed landfill.

How To

Get your materials ready: paper, scissors, and a bit of tape or glue. If you’re not sure what you’re doing, look up instructions online.

Once the book is covered, your child can draw, decorate, and personalize.

We have a hunch your kids will be delighted with this project!
