Switch to natural conditioner

Why This is Green

Who doesn’t want lustrous, easy to comb hair? Before you treat your locks, remember that not all conditioners are created equal. Like most conventional cosmetics, conditioner can contain a number of synthetic chemicals that have been linked to everything from cancers to hormone disruption to birth defects to skin or eye irritation.

While conditioners vary brand to brand, they tend contain multiple controversial petroleum-derived ingredients. They can also contain dyes, parabens, and synthetic fragrance. The Environmental Working Group deems fragrance a high hazard due to its links to allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress, and potential effects on the reproductive system.

When conditioner residue rinses down the drain, they can harm aquatic life. Natural conditioners made of biodegradable ingredients and perfumed with essential oils are a safer bet.

How To

Show your hair some love. Not available in your local store? Check natural product stores and online.

Experiment with organic oils; you may find your hair does very well with a dab of jojoba oil as a leave in conditioner and nothing more. Try neem oil for deep conditioning.
