Take public transportation between events
Why This is Green
Over 50 percent of Americans have access to mass transit, but only 4.5 percent use it regularly. Help raise that percentage. If you’re traveling between events—for work or play, where you live or on a vacation—hop on public transportation instead of driving or taking a taxi. You’ll use less gas and reduce congestion plus emissions. If you’re on a train you might even beat the traffic.
Whatever mode of public transportation you take, it’s likely to be kind on your wallet. The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) says an individual can save $9,293 annually commuting via mass transit. Most of us don’t have an event to go to every day but rest assured every trip counts, whether you’re using mass transit once a week or several times a year. The more you use it, the bigger the eco-impact.

How To
It is significantly easier to use public transportation when you live, work, or are staying near a station or a stop. If you have a choice when traveling, choose a hotel near public transportation.
Even proximity can’t eliminate some of the challenges that come with mass transit: coordination, schedules, and service. Familiarize yourself with the schedules near where you live. And set yourself up for success when you travel by securing route maps online before you go.
Enjoy the benefits of letting someone else get you to and from an event: time to read, chat, and even respond to emails.
