Turn off the faucet while shaving
Why This is Green
Turning off the water as you shave is a no-brainer. A standard faucet can use about 2 to 3 gallons of water per minute, so it saves considerable water to shut it off as you do your thing, then turn it back on to rinse. You can save a lot of water depending on how often—and how long—you shave. Do the math: it could be 30 gallons a day! And that could translate into 10,000 gallons or more per year. That’s considerable savings—both for the environment and your wallet.
Using less water allows more to stay in the ground or in a reservoir, which helps maintain a natural balance, supports wildlife, and preserves H20 for future use. Even if you live in a place where it rains a lot, there might be a water shortage. At least 36 states expect water shortages in the next five years.

How To
Turning off the water is as basic as it gets, but it can take a minute to settle into your new routine. Instead of using running water to rinse your razor, try placing a cup of water on the side of the sink or shower. Dunk to clean as you go.
If you really can’t remember to leave the water off, stick a reminder note on the mirror.
