Carpooling is an effective means of both saving money and reducing your environmental impact. The more you choose to carpool, the greater the benefits to your wallet and the environment due to less fuel consumption. This extends the life of your auto, and it releases fewer greenhouse-gas emissions.
Look to your neighbors and determine how many have to drive to the same school at the same time that you do. Does it make sense to carpool? In most cases, probably yes.
The hardest of part of carpooling is coordinating, but this doesn't apply if you are doing it only once, so go ahead--ask that neighbor if you could drive their child back and forth in exchange for them taking your child one day. You might find they are totally thrilled to do this and it turns into a regular gig.
